500 years ago the colonisation of the peoples in the Americas, Asia, Africa and the Pacific began - an endless history of genocide, unpunished crimes and the plundering of whole continents.

During these 500 years many people were systematically denied their right to live as human beings.

These times left their mark on every man and every woman involved and on the following generations - be they white or the obvious victims of this history.

The phoenix way means that we believe nonetheless in a future that is different from the past; a future we are willing to work for by taking concrete steps.

Like "phoenix from the ashes" people from all over the world shall rise up against racism and strive for human rights, laws against discrimination, equal rights and for the healing of all humankind.

The name phoenix e.V. at the same time also refers to a woman who played a very special part in the formation of our group: Sybil Theodora Phoenix, a black British woman from London.
